About this deal

I can't see any place a 20 lb hammer fits into automotive work unless maybe your working on the 200 ton coal mining dump trucks. I think a lot depends on the person swinging the hammer as well as how many times you would be swinging it.

The energy argument seems right until I use something heavier and the mass/inertia just seems to take care of the job.

Another question for you guys, if I am using it for more repair work, rather than demo, should I get a soft faced style? pound hammer is gonna be real awkward to swing unless it's underhand in my opinion, I'm short though so this might not apply to you. If you are a stronger person, someone who does manual labor a lot, and you find that you are breaking stone/concrete or driving post in to permafrost ground, in an area where accuracy is not important, then you might want to increase the weight to get done quicker. I am looking to replace a couple of China no name sledge hammers that I sent off to the auction the other day. The powerful force you can generate is also suitable for demolishing brick and studwork walls as well as driving home stakes. Having said that, and not knowing what your house/property looks like, if you find you are having to take a bunch of wacks using the 8 lb or ten lb hammers, you might find going up in weight to be useful.

I owned a 10 pounder when I was a six-two, 275-pound weightlifter, and swinging that thing from over my shoulder for more than ten minutes forced me to take a long break a catch my breath. I could probably swing this thing at concrete all day for a year and it'd look brand new at the end of it. I guess it performs like brass, yet it could still create a spark, so it is not considered safe for certain environments.
